Scarsdale Diet Review.

The Scarsdale diet is one of the original high protein low carbohydrate diet plans,  developed by a cardiologist, Dr Herman Tarnower. Initially for the benefit of his heart patients, realizing it's weight loss capabilities, he developed it further as a weight loss diet.. Benefiting from a combination of low carbs and fats, it soon became a huge success, with stories of people losing large amounts of weight fast, some claiming to have lost up to 20 lbs.

So, What Is The Scarsdale Diet.

The diet consists of two phases, a strict 14 day eating plan, followed by a further 14 days of a more relaxed dieting and if completed there is a lot of evidence to support it weight loss capabiliyies. Dieters that like a rigid dieting regime wiull love this diet because it prescribes exactly what you eat every day, there is no deviation you have to follow the Scarsdale diet menu. You would have to plan your meals beforhand but once you have all the ingredience, it could be followed almost robotically.

The advantage of this type of diet is that you never need suffer from hunger pangs because there is no restriction in the amount of protein and vegetables you are allowed to eat. Protein also takes longer to digest so you will feel full for longer.

How It Works

The idea is that a low carb diet like this will force the body to convert to burning fats rather tha carbs. Dr Tarnower believed that the  body does not need all the carbohydrates we eat in the modern era, because it causes havoc with our blood sugar levels and what is excess to requirements as fuel,  is converted into fatty acids and stored as fat.
So when there are no carbohydrates to burn the body starts converting that tire around your middle for it's fuel, and the fat loss begins.



What Can You Eat on a Scarsdale Diet Plan?

Basically you can eat as much protein and low carb vegetables as you like. Meat should have all skin and visible fat removed and veggies should not include, corn, peas, beans and lentils, which are too high in carbs.
Limited amounts of nuts and fruit can be consumed as well as coffee and tea without sugar, only artificial sweeteners are permitted. If you are one of those people that likes a glass of wine at the end of along day, forget it, this diet does not allow ay alchohol at all. Snacking is frown on, but if you must then raw carrots ar celery are the only options allowed. Dr Tarnower encourage the use of natural appetite suppressants like hoodia Gordonia which is available frpm most health shops.

Breakfasts - are the same every morning.

Grapefruit, or other fruits, dry whole-wheat toast,
Drinks - Tea or coffee, (no milk and use artificial sweetener)

Lunches.
Day 1. Cold meats with tomatoes.              Day 2. Fruit salad. 
Day 3.  tinned tuna or salmon  salad.        
Day 4. 2 Eggs with cottage cheese and veggies.
Day 5. Assorted cheeses with spinach and a slice of protein bread. 
Day 6. Fruit salad.                                        Day 7.Chicken or turkey with veggies. 

Tea or coffee can be had with every meal.

Dinners.
Day 1. Fish or shellfish with salad or veggies, slice of protein toast. and fruit.  
Day 2. Grilled hamburgers and salad.         Day 3. Roast lamb and salad.
Day 4. Roast or grilled chicken and veggies.
Day 5. Fish os shellfish with salad or veggies.
Day 6. Roast chicken or turkey and salad.
Day 7. Grilled steak with salad or veggies.

Tea or coffee can be had with every meal.
